Establish Your Reputation Now – Even Without Customers

Establishing a reputation in a new business can seem nearly impossible, especially when you’re a sole proprietorship with no past clients ready to write positive testimonials. Luckily, there are solutions; here are three quick and easy ways to get those positive reviews and present yourself as a professional.

#1 – Do a quick polish of your online presence

This means a clean, simple and clutter-free website.  Simplicity screams professionalism. Add to that an email address that uses your company domain name, and an About page that details your past accomplishments. This way, even if you don’t have specific clients to talk about, you can focus on your experience and expertise.

#2 – Get testimonials from past associates

Even though your business is new, chances are you’ve been helping people for a long time. Reach out to people you’ve worked for in the past, or you’ve helped out even on a volunteer level, and ask them for testimonials for your website. If you suspect any hesitation, make it easy for them by writing it on their behalf, and just asking them to approve it.

#3 – Perfect your unique story

Having a great elevator pitch is a critical start, but it’s only the beginning. If you’ve written your business plan the right way, you will have a unique value others in your category can’t match.  Write a short article about why what you do is special, and send it to reporters and bloggers who are in touch with your potential customers. They’re always hungry for something to write about, and doing an article about a startup is often very appealing. Once published, don’t forget to put links to their article on your website’s Media page.If you follow these three steps your reputation will grow quickly. From here, leverage what you’ve done with a social media strategy and you could create a solid following for your business.
